The Spoon Fairies
Hello and welcome to the November edition of The Radical Compost Heap. On the compost heap this month I am sharing a new project I have been working on called The Spoon Fairies on Strike!
The Spoon Fairies on Strike! is a limited edition 12-page A6 political pamphlet written by the Spoon Fairies as they organise for an upcoming strike. The zine includes a pull-out poster, activities, poetry, exclusive interviews, and a mutual aid directory (and more!). The zine has been riso-printed in two colours and is available to buy here and via the link below. 50% of profits will be donated to Gaza Mutual Aid.

Who are the Spoon Fairies?
I have imagined that spoons, as in Spoon Theory* are grown by Spoon Fairies in Spoon Gardens.
Why are the Spoon Fairies going on strike?
The Spoon Fairies have had enough of the chronic spoon shortages faced by the crip community due to the demands and systems of white supremacist, ableist, heteronormative capitalism. They are exhausted by the extractivist exploitation of an economy that inflames bodies, minds, and ecosystems. They have decided to go on strike, and this political pamphlet is one of their organising and educational strategies.
The zine is 12 pages, A6, and includes an A4 pull-out poster, activities, poetry, exclusive interviews, and a mutual aid directory (and more!).
*What is Spoon Theory??
Spoon Theory was originally developed by Christine Miserandino. Below is a definition from the artist Jamila Prowse:
Spoon theory uses spoons as a visualisation of the disparity in energy reserves between disabled and abled people. Though a disabled and abled person will start the day with the same number of spoons, an abled person may only need 1 spoon to undertake an activity such as going to the shops, while a disabled person might use 4 spoons. In this way, disabled people deplete their spoons (or energy reserves) far quicker and thus have to be conscious about how they spend their spoons. Spoons theory has translated into a colloquialism within crip communities – “I’m out of spoons” or “I’m going to spend my spoons on you.” (Reproduced with the artist’s permission).
